Writers & Authors: Treat Your Books Like A Business

Posted By: Val on February 20, 2012 at 2:32 pm

I have been spending some time reading Professional Kindle Marketing by Bill Platt and Audre Hill and, once again, would like to highly recommend it. Published in 2012, it is right up-to-date and exceedingly helpful to authors earning their living as a writer.

The bottom line is that any writer who sells books is a writer who gets personally involved in marketing their book. Their advice in this area is practical, helpful and sure to result in increased royalties for those who take it seriously.

The Amazon/Kindle marketplace are the two largest sources in the world today for new sales. Vincent Zandri sold over 75,000 copies of one of his books in just five weeks. John Locke sold one million in five months. The traffic is huge and hungry.

D.D. Scott said that when her books were listed in the first 100 best sellers, her royalties increased from $3,000 per month to $14,000 in December, 2011.

Three things that took my attention in Professional Kindle Marketing were:

  • Listing your other books and contact details on the last page of your book.
  • Encouraging people to sign up to an autoresponder so you can keep in touch with them on an ongoing basis.
  • The value of good reviews. Customer testimonials are one of the most effective sales tools on the product page.

There is so much more, like great advice on pricing strategies and how to use social marketing to your benefit.

We need to stop treating our books like a hobby and start treating it like a real business!

Professional Kindle Marketing is the perfect companion to my eGuide “Kindle Publishing Made Easy”. I tell you how to publish a Kindle book and Professional Kindle Marketing tells you how to create a buzz around it.

It is an excellent buy.

Powerful & Insightful…”Professional Kindle Marketing”

Posted By: Val on February 4, 2012 at 10:30 am

How To Tell People Your Book Is Available

I want to recommend an ebook I purchased recently. Professional Kindle Marketing not only covers marketing a Kindle book in-depth, it also shows you how to market any book advertised on the multitude of Amazon web properties.

But more than that, “Professional Kindle Marketing” will teach you how to market your books Inside and Outside of the Amazon/Kindle marketplace.

This book covers Kindle Marketing, Amazon Marketing and General Book Marketing principles in great depth.

In 70-pages, this book will teach you everything you need to know, in order for you to:

Explode Your Book Sales!! AND Dramatically Increase Your Book Royalties!!

* Has your book been published by a print publishing house?
* Are you self-publishing your book?
* Have you published a Kindle book yet?
* Do you have book titles listed for sale inside of Amazon?
* Are you selling any books online?
* Are you still selling any of your books/reports as PDF documents only?
* Are you wondering if you should publish your book on Amazon / Kindle?
* Do you know how to price your books to maximize your royalties?

If you have answered Yes to any of these questions, then I really really recommend getting your own copy of the 70-page book marketing guide called, “Professional Kindle Marketing”.

This product focuses exclusively on marketing books inside and outside of the Amazon/Kindle marketplace.

It does not teach people how to format and upload Kindle books, a topic adequately covered in my eGuide “Kindle Publishing Made Easy.”

Using Twitter to Market Your Kindle Books

Posted By: Val on December 10, 2011 at 12:21 pm

How To Become a Kindle Best Selling Author

John Locke is a Kindle author who sold over one million Kindle books in the space of about five months.

His Kindle book “How I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months!” tells you how he did that using mainly Twitter.

Until the time he developed his strategy, he sold only a few books. Then this is what he did:

John used Twitter search to find people who were tweeting about the same topic he had blogged about in his personal Blog. Then he sent an individual private message via Twitter to every person tweeting on the topic and invited them to read his latest blog post which, of course, included information about his Kindle book and a link to Amazon.

The majority of hese people were not following him at the time (though some did become followers), but he reckoned they were people who might be interested in him because they’re tweeting about a subject he was blogging on.

He was right. And the rest is history! And, I might add, ongoing history.

It’s a most interesting book. Here’s a link if you want to add it to your library.

Press Releases

David Baldacci, Amanda Hocking and Stephenie Meyer Join the Kindle Million Club
Hocking is the second author to use Kindle Direct Publishing to reach this milestone

SEATTLE, Nov 09, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) –

(NASDAQ:AMZN)–Amazon.com, Inc., today announced that David Baldacci, Amanda Hocking and Stephenie Meyer are the latest authors to join the Kindle Million Club, selling over 1 million paid copies of their books in the Amazon.com Kindle Store (www.amazon.com/kindlestore). They join 11 other authors in the Kindle Million Club: Stieg Larsson, James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Charlaine Harris, Lee Child, Suzanne Collins, Michael Connelly, John Locke, Kathryn Stockett, Janet Evanovich and George R.R. Martin.

As with John Locke before her, Amanda Hocking sold the majority of her 1 million Kindle books independently using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). Since its launch in 2007, KDP has provided a fast, free and easy way for authors and publishers around the world to make their books available in the Kindle Store. In addition to the more than 2 million books sold by John Locke and Amanda Hocking, 12 KDP authors have sold more than 200,000 books and 30 KDP authors have sold more than 100,000 books.

“Our customers love reading all kinds of books on their Kindle, and it’s thanks to them that the Kindle Million Club keeps growing so quickly,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President of Kindle Content. “It’s exciting to see both long-time Amazon best-selling authors from the traditional publishing world and independently published authors join the club.”

“I’m thrilled to be a member of the Kindle Million Club,” said David Baldacci. “EBooks are leading the way in more people reading and it’s great to be part of this revolution.” David Baldacci is the internationally best-selling author of more than 20 novels that have been translated into over 45 languages and sold in more than 80 countries. His most recent books include the best seller “The Sixth Man” and the Kindle Single “No Time Left.” His newest novel, “Zero Day,” was published on October 31.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who has bought one of my books, and to Amazon, for giving me a place to share my books,” said Amanda Hocking. “None of this would have been possible without you. Thank you!” Amanda Hocking got her start independently publishing her books and is now the best-selling author of 10 books, including the My Blood Approves series and the Trylle Trilogy, which has been optioned for films. Hocking has been featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly, Huffington Post and Forbes.

“I know for a fact that this is the most awesome club I’ve ever been allowed into,” said Stephenie Meyer. “Of course I owe it all to the readers – thanks for continually making me cooler than I actually am. And thanks Kindle, for making it so much easier to bring 25 books with me on vacation.” Stephenie Meyer is the author of six novels, including the best-selling Twilight Saga series. “Twilight” was named an Amazon.com Best Book of the Decade So Far, and the series has become a global phenomenon that has been published in 50 languages around the world with over 116 million copies sold worldwide. The movie version of the final book in the Twilight Saga, “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” hits theaters November 18.

Kindle books are “Buy Once, Read Everywhere” – on Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Touch 3G, Kindle Fire, on the web with Kindle Cloud Reader, and free Kindle reading apps for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, PCs, Mac, Android phones and tablets, BlackBerry and Windows phones.
